Joint HESA/UCAS statement on MIAP

HESA and UCAS welcome the development of the Managing Information Across Partners (MIAP) programme. Both organisations are particularly pleased to see the introduction of data standards, of a unique learner identifier and of a national register of learning providers. We recognise the potential cost savings and quality benefits that these developments bring.

Our organisations are committed to adopting, as and when appropriate, agreed standards for the capture, processing and transmission of data. Specifically, but not exclusively, we are committed to:

  • The adoption of the technical standards defined in the MIAP Common Data Definitions, including XML and UNICODE
  • The adoption of relevant MIAP data definitions for individual fields
  • The adoption of the UK Provider Reference Number as an institution identifier
  • The adoption of the Unique Learner Number as a personal identifier
