There are two ways to apply for art and design courses - Route A and
Route B. Applications for courses in Route A follow the same procedures as
for other courses. Route B courses follow a different timetable and a
different application process.
Route B allows time for applicants studying a Diploma in Foundation Studies (Art & Design) to identify their specialisation and prepare their portfolio. The application process is slightly different if applying for Route B courses, because we send applications to institutions in preference order.
Applicants can apply for up to three places and they should indicate the order in which they would like their application to be sent. The preference order should be selected on Apply (if they are completing their application), or via Track (if the application has already been sent and they are adding further choices). We will send the application to the first choice institution.
Replying to their offers
If your son or daughter is offered a place for a Route B course and has not applied to any Route A courses, they must decide either to accept the offer or decline it and move on to the next choice. If they are unsuccessful, their application will automatically be sent to their next choice. Such decisions must be made within 14 days (21 days if they are applying from outside the European Union). Their reply date will be displayed on Track.
If they have applied to both Route A and Route B courses, they can choose to 'keep' a Route B offer, which means it will be held until all Route A decisions have been received by us. They can then reply to their offers.
